These elegant roast beef bites are the ultimate high-protein snack or sophisticated party canapé. By pairing tender slices of rare beef with a punchy horseradish cream, you create a classic British flavour profile that feels both nostalgic and modern. The crisp baguette base provides a satisfying crunch, making them a fantastic choice for festive gatherings or an effortless weekend appetiser.
This recipe is remarkably simple to assemble but offers a high-impact presentation. Using shop-bought roast beef makes preparation quick, while the addition of fresh watercress adds a peppery brightness that cuts through the rich crème fraîche. Whether you are hosting a drinks party or looking for a savoury, protein-rich treat, these homemade crostini are sure to be a crowd-pleasing favourite.
Ingredients for Rose Beef Bites with Horseradish Cream
1 small baguette
2 tablespoons butter, melted
9 thin slices of rare roast beef
18 watercress leaves
1/2 cup crème fraîhe or soured cream
1 tablespoon grated horseradish
salt and black pepper
How to make Rose Beef Bites with Horseradish Cream
1 Preheat the oven to 177°C. Slice the baguette into 18 thin circles. Brush both sides of each slice with melted butter. Place the baguette circles on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 7-10 minutes, turning halfway through, until brown, then let cool.
2 To make the horseradish cream, combine the crème fraîche or soured cream with the horseradish and season to taste. When the baguette circles have cooled, place a spoonful of horseradish cream on top of each one.
3 Cut each slice of beef in half lengthwise, then roll it up to form a pretty rose spiral. Place a roll of beef on top of each baguette circle, then garnish with watercress leaves.
