There is no known harmful interaction between adrenaline (EpiPen) and loratadine. In fact, these two medicines are often used during the same period to treat different stages of an allergic reaction.

Why this happens
Adrenaline works quickly to reverse life-threatening symptoms of anaphylaxis (like swelling and low blood pressure), while loratadine is a long-acting antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors to reduce milder symptoms like itching or hives. They work through different pathways in the body and do not interfere with each other's effectiveness or metabolism.

Back to contentsIf you are experiencing a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), use your EpiPen immediately as instructed and call emergency services (999). Do not rely on loratadine to treat a severe reaction, as it works too slowly. You can continue to take your prescribed loratadine for hay fever or hives as usual, even if you have had to use an EpiPen recently.
