Why this happens

Aspirin and doxycycline are processed by the body using different pathways. Aspirin works on enzymes that control pain and inflammation, while doxycycline is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing. They do not interfere with how each other is absorbed, broken down, or removed from the body.

You can take these medicines together as prescribed. However, doxycycline can sometimes cause an upset stomach or irritation to the food pipe (oesophagus). To prevent this, swallow the doxycycline tablet with a full glass of water while sitting or standing upright, and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes afterwards. If you have a history of stomach ulcers, speak to your pharmacist or doctor before taking aspirin regularly.
