Can I take Anoro ellipta inhalation powder and Valsartan together?

Drug interaction guide

There is no known direct interaction between Anoro Ellipta and valsartan. However, because Anoro Ellipta contains a medicine that can slightly increase your heart rate or affect potassium levels, and valsartan is used to manage blood pressure and heart health, your doctor may want to monitor your heart and blood pressure more closely when you start or change doses.

Why this happens

Anoro Ellipta contains umeclidinium and vilanterol. Vilanterol is a 'beta-agonist' which can occasionally cause a fast heartbeat or low potassium. Valsartan is an 'ARB' that affects blood pressure and can sometimes increase potassium. While they work in different ways and do not interfere with each other's metabolism, their combined effects on the heart and mineral balance are worth noting.

You can safely take these medicines together as prescribed. It is a good idea to monitor your blood pressure regularly at home. If you notice a very fast or irregular heartbeat, or if you feel unusually dizzy or shaky, mention this to your doctor or pharmacist at your next check-up.
