Why this happens

Both hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid) and alcohol can irritate the lining of the stomach. When used together, this effect is 'additive', meaning the risk of damage is higher than with either substance alone. It is best to limit or avoid alcohol while taking hydrocortisone, especially if you are taking it long-term or at high doses. If you do choose to drink, do so in moderation and always take your hydrocortisone with food to help protect your stomach.
