Can I take Acarbose and Qulipta together?

Why this happens

Acarbose works in the gut to slow down the breakdown of starchy foods into sugar. Qulipta is processed by the liver (specifically the CYP3A4 enzyme) and does not interfere with the way acarbose works. There is no evidence that these drugs change each other's levels in the blood.

You can take these two medicines together. If you experience new or worsening stomach upset, bloating, or constipation, speak with your doctor. If you use acarbose to manage diabetes, continue to monitor your blood sugar levels as usual. If you experience a 'hypo' (low blood sugar) while taking acarbose, remember to treat it with glucose (dextrose) tablets or a milk drink, rather than household sugar (sucrose), as acarbose blocks the digestion of normal sugar.
