Drinking alcohol while taking lercanidipine can cause your blood pressure to drop too low. This can make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, faint, or sleepy. It can also increase the risk of experiencing a fast or irregular heartbeat.

Why this happens
Both alcohol and lercanidipine work by widening your blood vessels (vasodilation). When used together, this effect is much stronger, leading to a significant drop in blood pressure. Alcohol can also interfere with how your body breaks down the medication, potentially increasing the amount of lercanidipine in your bloodstream.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking lercanidipine. If you do choose to drink, keep it to a very small amount and be aware that you may feel the effects of alcohol more quickly. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or drowsy. If you feel faint, sit or lie down until the feeling passes.
