Taking naproxen and ramipril together can increase the risk of kidney problems and may make your blood pressure medication less effective. It can also lead to high levels of potassium in your blood.

Why this happens
Naproxen (an NSAID) can reduce the blood flow to the kidneys and cause the body to hold onto salt and water. This works against ramipril, which is trying to lower your blood pressure and protect your kidneys. Both drugs can also stop the body from getting rid of potassium properly.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. They may want to check your kidney function and blood pressure more frequently, or suggest an alternative painkiller like paracetamol. If you do take them together, ensure you stay well-hydrated and report any signs of swelling in your ankles or decreased urination to your doctor.
