Combining alcohol with Mounjaro (tirzepatide) can increase the risk of your blood sugar levels dropping too low (hypoglycaemia). It can also make the common stomach-related side effects of Mounjaro, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, much worse. Additionally, both alcohol and Mounjaro can affect the pancreas; using them together may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).

Why this happens
Mounjaro works by mimicking hormones that help your body manage blood sugar and slow down digestion. Alcohol can prevent your liver from releasing glucose into the bloodstream, leading to low blood sugar. Furthermore, both substances can irritate the digestive system and the pancreas.
