Movicol is a laxative that works by drawing water into your bowel. Because it speeds up the movement of your digestive system, it can potentially wash other medicines through your body before they have had a chance to be properly absorbed. This could make your other medicine less effective.

Why this happens

Movicol (macrogol) increases the speed of gastrointestinal transit. This can reduce the time available for the absorption of other orally administered medications.

To ensure your other medicines work correctly, you should leave a gap of at least 2 hours between taking Movicol and taking any other oral medication. If you are taking medicines with a narrow therapeutic range (medicines where the dose needs to be very precise, such as epilepsy drugs or blood thinners), you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist for specific timing advice.
