Combining alcohol with zopiclone can lead to extreme sleepiness, severe confusion, and dangerous breathing problems. It significantly increases the risk of accidents, falls, and losing consciousness.

Why this happens
Both alcohol and zopiclone are 'central nervous system depressants'. This means they both slow down brain activity. When taken together, they 'double up' on this effect, making the sedative impact much stronger and more unpredictable than taking either one alone.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou must not drink any alcohol while you are taking zopiclone. Even a small amount of alcohol can dangerously increase the sedative effects of the medication. If you have consumed alcohol, do not take your dose of zopiclone that night. Additionally, remember that it is illegal to drive with any amount of cannabis in your system in the UK, and the same caution applies to any substance that impairs your coordination and reaction times.
