Why this happens
Both alcohol and gabapentin are 'central nervous system depressants'. This means they both slow down brain activity and the messages travelling through your nerves. When used together, they 'stack' their effects, making the sedation much stronger and more dangerous than if you took either one alone.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking gabapentin. This could make you feel more drowsy or dizzy than usual. Additionally, both medications can occasionally affect your liver function, so using them together over a long period requires caution.
