Why this happens

Omeprazole can slow down the liver enzymes (specifically CYP2C19 and CYP3A4) that are responsible for breaking down amitriptyline. Because the body cannot clear the amitriptyline as quickly as usual, the levels of the medicine build up in your system.

You should use this combination with caution. If your doctor has prescribed both, they may need to adjust your dose of amitriptyline. Monitor yourself closely for increased side effects. If you feel very dizzy, confused, or notice a fast or thumping heartbeat, contact your doctor immediately. It is also best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking these medicines, as it can worsen drowsiness.
