Green tea can significantly reduce the amount of nadolol that your body absorbs from your stomach. This means the medicine may not work as well as it should to control your blood pressure or heart condition.

Why this happens

Green tea contains compounds that block a specific 'transporter' in the gut (called OATP1A2) that helps nadolol move from your digestive system into your bloodstream. Without this transporter working properly, less medicine gets into your system.

It is best to avoid drinking green tea while taking nadolol. If you do choose to drink it, ensure you leave at least a 4-hour gap between taking your nadolol and drinking green tea. You should also monitor your blood pressure regularly and speak to your doctor if you notice it increasing.
